[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]2019 was a year full of so many amazing jewelry projects, and we are thrilled you choose to work with us.  You may have seen our latest story on Instagram about custom but we thought we would write it all down.  As we said in the story, we are already getting busy with custom, so we wanted to take the opportunity to lay out our process.  We encourage you to look through your jewelry boxes and inspire you in your future jewelry project with us.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_media_grid grid_id=”vc_gid:1579909046972-b968c9cc-f057-6″ include=”26149,26153,26578″][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]We break “custom” down into 3 different categories.

  1. Repair
  2. Special Order
  3. Custom

-turning a brooch or pin into a pendant
– Replacing a stone
-soldering a charm onto a chain
-re-sizing an heirloom ring

Repairs typically take about 2 weeks and you don’t need an appointment. One thing to note is that we only work in gold and platinum and while we are usually able to quote these projects at drop-off, there are always unforseeable costs that we always try to keep to a minimum. These projects are super easy and it’s a quick way to start wearing those jewelry pieces that have just been sitting in your drawer for years.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_media_grid grid_id=”vc_gid:1579909046974-c5ad3005-2d4e-7″ include=”26156,26161,26158″][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Special Orders are simple projects using designs we have either made in the past or that we already have in the store. Some examples of this would be:

-turning an existing tennis bracelet into an eternity band
-using stones from a cluster ring in a cuff bracelet
-using a solitaire ring to make a bezel pendant

Special Orders take about 4 weeks to complete depending on our pipeline. We need some time to measure the materials and see what we can use / what we materials we may need to source, but these are usually straightforward projects.

We like to point out that if we’re using existing stones for a special order, diamonds should be at least 2mm in size. This is because smaller diamonds are more likely to be damaged in the removal process. Another reason we like stones to be of a certain size is because a new diamond costs less than the labor to remove a smaller stone.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_media_grid grid_id=”vc_gid:1579909046975-fa7c8f30-31e6-9″ include=”26165,26164,26167″][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]And last, but not least Custom can be broken down into two buckets:

Custom using YOUR stones or Custom using OUR stones.

We love these projects and have worked with people in our South End neighborhood as well people on the other side of the country on equally amazing heirloom-worthy pieces. These projects always challenge us and push us to create totally unique pieces of jewelry. Everyone has different preferences on how involved they want to be in their custom project so we are happy to meet in person in our office, on skype, or speak over the phone.

Pricing: Our custom projects require $650 design fee plus labor and all additional materials. Custom projects using heirloom diamonds over 1/2 carat may require an additional setting fee. We usually say that a typical custom project will start at around $1500.

Timing: A lot of planning and material sourcing goes into a custom project, so we like to have as much time as possible but in some cases we can rush projects. Depending on the approval of the design, a typical project might take 8-10 weeks.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”26577″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Whether it’s a simple ring resize so you can wear your grandfather’s signet ring, a pair of cluster studs using diamonds and sapphires from a cocktail ring you just arent wearing, or a custom engagement ring using a diamond that we sourced for you, seeing the final outcome of a custom project is always rewarding. Interested in working with us? Email us pictures and/or a description of what your looking for at info@dev.mflynnjewelry.com and someone from our team will get back to you as soon as possible. We look forward to working on your jewelry projects![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
