[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We’ve been seeing so much color lately in engagement rings and we get a lot of questions about the gemstones that might be appropriate in a ring for every day wear.  Even a diamond might chip or break in the right situation, but there are some colored gemstones that are more sturdy & our go-to’s for engagement rings and our custom ring projects.

Sapphire

Sapphires are strong and tough.  Did you know that sapphire comes in yellows, pink, orange and green?   Most popular for us has been the Montana Sapphire.  With a focus on pieces domestically sourced, I think that Montana Sapphires will continue to be popular.  We did a blog post recently showing off some of our recent Montana Sapphire projects that you must check out.  The blue/green color is magic.

Tourmaline

Tourmaline will also be able to withstand daily wear.  Most popular is the shades of green and pink.  We have a Mociun ring in the case that was custom cut by Top Notch that is the prettiest shade I have seen.  It’s an easy to wear, neutral green.

Garnet

We have made a few red garnet rings but the tsavorite (green) garnet is just an amazing stone and one I would recommend.

Emerald

Emeralds are the most delicate of the stones we use, but they are just so grand and traditional.  We worked on a beautiful 3 stone emerald ring before the holiday.  I love it!

Morganite

Anna Sheffield uses morganite and we’ve noticed that it’s really picked up in popularity.  It’s a pretty durable stone and the pale, salmon color is a nice neutral color and a pretty alternative to a diamond.  It’s feminine and looks so pretty with diamond.

I often tell my clients that colored stones aren’t right for everyone.  There are so many choices and it can be overwhelming.    Travel to the annual gem show in Tuscon, AZ and you will see miles of these gemstones in more colors, saturation’s and prices than you could ever imagine.  If you’re a person who has a hard time making decisions or if you have a very particular color in mind, these gemstones may not be the right choice for your project.  The specific color, size, and cut may not be readily available at the time and the choice could slow down the custom project.  It’s my job to really drill down on a particular color.    However, this variety is what I also find to be the most exciting part of colored stones because you can truly work with some one of a kind stones.[/vc_column_text]
