A good friend of ours brought by a ring that belonged to his mother and he wanted to have it repaired for her. The ring was a sweet amethyst cocktail ring that was was given as a promise ring from his late father to his mother years ago after they met.
After we took a closer look at the repair to replace a missing stone, we noticed that the “diamond” side stones were actually made of glass. The setting was 14K but we needed to rebuild the prongs and we suggested to our friend that we surprise his mom by replacing the glass with some full cut real diamonds. The ring got lots love (cleaning, polishing) along with the new sparkling round and baguette diamonds.
Our friend’s mother kept checking on the “repair” and wondered why the simple change took us soooo long to complete but when she finally got the “new” ring, she was so touched by her son’s thoughtfulness.
