History of a Tennis Bracelet & How to Style

Why does Tennis Have its Own Bracelet? As we prepare for the upcoming M. Flynn Tennis Team tryouts, we've noticed a recurring question among our clients: the fascinating connection between tennis and jewelry.

The origin of the tennis bracelet

The story begins in the 1920s with the emergence of what was then known as the “eternity bracelet.” Originally, this style of bracelet was primarily associated with marital bliss, often given as a gift to commemorate weddings.

However, it wasn’t until the 1970s that this type of bracelet found its place on the tennis court, thanks in part to a memorable incident at the 1978 US Open involving American tennis star Chris Evert. During an early round of the tournament, Evert halted play to search for her bracelet that had fallen off during the match. This wasn’t just any bracelet; it was a classic line bracelet, designed to strike a balance between elegance and functionality, allowing Evert to move comfortably on the court while still showcasing a touch of her own style!

The tennis bracelet is comfortable enough to wear on the court, but can easily be dressed up. The simple design of a line bracelet, worn alone, is a classic, dressed up look that is a necessity in every jewelry collection. If you’re looking for a more causal look, the tennis bracelet or necklace can easily be mixed in with your other jewelry. The more you layer, the more effortless the look gets.

As we gear up for our own tennis tryouts, we are compelled to pause and reflect on the iconic narrative behind the Tennis Bracelet, a story that resonates with the spirit of both sport and style. Do you want to join the M. Flynn Tennis Team? Tryouts are on Thursday, June 27th from 11am to 6pm. Learn more here.
