A captivating story that follows diamonds throughout pop-culture, Brilliance & Fire by Rachelle Bernstein tells how diamonds came to symbolize eternal love, opulence, elegance, and glamour. The stories of celebrities that adorned themselves in their beauty, the many movies, songs, and pieces of art centered around the diamond, and the reasons why we find them so alluring today.

This book tells stories of the rise of popularity of the diamond, and celebrity endorsements that helped propel them into the limelight. It begins as far back as the 1930s, just as the diamond was ‘going out of style,’ an ad agency coined the term “A Diamond is Forever,” to symbolize eternal love – which has stuck with us up until this day.

From that point on, Diamonds were being seen everywhere in pop culture. Marilyn Monroe, one of the biggest stars of her time, was nearly a spokeswoman for Diamonds. She was always seen wearing the most stunning diamond jewelry, and her hit ‘Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend’ has become iconic. When she was proposed to by Fiance Joe Diamaggio, the world couldn’t wait to get a look at her beautiful engagement ring.

With their rising popularity, people couldn’t wait to get a view of celebrities’ diamond engagement rings as soon as they were proposed to. Public faces like Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor and many others drew in crowds to get a look at their gorgeous rings. Other mega stars like Audrey Hepburn helped to give Diamonds their glamorous and coveted image with films like Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

The story continues all the way up until today, with modern day pop-culture continuing to romanticize and admire the diamond. It mentions the diamonds influence in hip-hop and rap in the 90’s. Artists including Run DMC, Notorious BIG, Jay-Z, Kanye West and many others were seen lavishly covering themselves in diamonds. Diamonds were used as a status symbol and were frequently mentioned in songs – making them all the more relevant.

Brilliance & Fire tells these stories and so many more! We all loved the book….it’s a great read and the perfect gift.  We will be hosting Q&A session with author Rachelle Bernstein & Boston Herald’s Erica Corsano on Wednesday, October 5,  with a meet & greet reception to follow. Brilliance & Fire is available in-store or on our Website. RSVP here, or e-mail samantha@dev.mflynnjewelry.com.
