Adel Chefridi designs beautiful & ethically crafted fine jewelry. Inspired by Mediterranean culture, and a fondness of the beauty of rare coins, these handmade pendants and charms truly make a statement. Read the Q & A below to learn a bit more about the man behind our newest collection.

How did you first become interested in jewelry design?

I was unaware of it at the time, but it was when I was a kid, multiple events added up. Mainly: Finding a locket on the street and seeing how happy my mother became when I gave it to her. Seeing a jeweler on his bench with a torch in his hand and magnifying glasses on his face, it felt very magical. Roaming through Phoenician, Roman and Byzantine archaeological sites, & looking for antique coins near where we lived in Carthage.

My childhood is what ultimately defines my sense of beauty and aesthetic choices. I still enjoy creating collections and surrounding myself with the magical beauty found in precious metals and gems.

Why should your pieces be added to a woman’s jewelry collection?

I think that what motivates a women to add a piece of jewelry to her collection the most is when she recognizes how beautiful she already is when she has the piece on. I enjoy contemplating a woman’s expressions when she tries jewelry on and looks at the mirror. Try it and you will notice that she is not looking at the piece, she’s looking at what the piece does for her. The subtle question is always ” is this who I am?”. When you are aware of that as a designer, you shift the weight from showing off you talents or how “precious” the jewels are, to studying the feelings and atmosphere that your piece emanates, keeping things simple even when they brimmed with details, getting out of the way even when you have your finger prints all over it. Trying to touch that very subtle and elusive place where hearts meet.

All of your jewelry is ethically sourced and created, why is this so important to you?

We try our best to source natural stones and work with recycled metals as much as possible. We continuously improve our practices to reflect our awareness of the impact of our actions on what’s around us.
The world is at a place where we can’t afford to treat everything around us as resources any longer. We are an expression of life surrounded by other expressions of the same life. The universe around us is an extension of our own identity.

What are your favorite pieces from your collection right now?

They say that artists make only one piece, and keep remaking it over and over again. I feel that’s totally true with what I do. I’m trying to express the same feeling over and over again. I do, however, from time to time, develop a certain affinity to a particular stone or a look – but at the end it’s all coming from the same well.

What do you find to be the most rewarding aspect about being a jewelry designer?

When I see someone wearing a piece that’s making them (even very slightly) happier with who they are.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space]
