The

Insider

We’ve been following Brent Neale for a while now and when we finally met her in Vegas we knew we had to bring her line to Boston. Her mixing and matching of colored stones and chunky gold pieces make her jewelry so bold and unique. We’re so excited to carry the line here at M. Flynn and we can’t wait to share the line with all of you. We had the chance to ask Brent some questions, take a look below.

When did your love for jewelry begin?

I was young maybe 7 or 8. I was always playing with my mother’s jewelry she had a dressing table that had costume jewelry in drawers and a leather jewelry box that sat on top which had her fine jewelry in it. I didn’t know the difference at the time but I will never forget taking a pair of small studs without telling her and I losing them in our backyard.

Did you always know you wanted to be a jewelry designer?

Jewelry designer was never a career that crossed my mind early on because I wasn’t aware that job even existed. My mom would take me to these Gem shows outside of DC and I started making necklaces and sold them to a small store in East Hampton through high school and college. That’s how I got my first job. A woman came into that store and asked who made them and I ended up being hired to work for her company doing product development for a private label.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job as a jewelry designer and the most challenging?

For me the most rewarding thing is seeing clients really respond to a piece. The most challenging is that as the owner of the company I can’t just wear the designer hat even though that’s most comfortable for me.

What inspires your designs?

So cliche but everything. Art, travel, textiles – what’s that Diane Vreeland quote ? The eye has to travel? For me that’s so true I crave seeing new places and having new experiences for me that feeds design.

Who would you describe as the “Brent Neale” customer?

She’s someone that’s looking for something fun, unexpected and colorful.

What’s next for you and the brand?

Trying to finish updating our website & working on a new collection to show in October! I’m very excited about both!
